Errant Ankles Lace Socks

HeartStrings knitting pattern #A67

A simple lace pattern makes into a zig zag ribbed sock with a slight scalloped edge. Choice of plain or banded heel flap where the pattern extends downward on each side of a modified square heel. Instep transitions from the lace pattern into a 5,1 rib and ends with a swirl decrease toe.

Note: The background in the picture is a lace shawl. It is the Doily #3 pattern from "Patterns for the Art of Lace Knitting, No.3", a compilation by Gloria Penning entitled The Complete Works of Rachel Schnelling". See www.knitlacepatterns.com. I used a strand of Fingerlakes lopi and a singles merino from Morehouse, on size 10 needles. I made this shawl in the early 90's, and am not sure if the exact same materials are still available.
