Lacy InterLACEments Scarf

Two of the stitch patterns (ZigZag and Diamonds) are true knitted lace, i.e. where yarn overs are made every row. The other stitch pattern(Star Mesh) is lace knitting where plain rows of knitting (a.k.a. "rest rows") alternate with rows having yarn overs.

Thus this sampler scarf is a study in both types of interLACEment. Even if you have not attempted true knitted lace before because you thought it was too hard, you can do it now with this scarf that works up quickly on only 35 stitches and large needles.

The 3 interchangeable stitch patterns in this scarf are designed to be arranged in any sequence you desire before working the next. You can try all 3 patterns as given in the instructions, or just work the ones you like.

  • Yarn: 300 yards (275 m) fingering weight;
  • Suggested needles: Size US 8 (5 mm)
  • Finished size: Approximately 7" by 70" (18 cm by 178 cm) blocked
  • Construction: Knitted flat from end-to-end; no seams to sew
  • Skill level: Advanced beginner
  • Stitch instructions: Written and charted
  • Yarn for sample model: Mountain Colors Wool Crêpe, color Headwaters
