Summer greetings -
Happy Canada Day and US Independence Day! We're definitely in the middle of the summer heat in this part of the world. This is definitely the time to pick something small and/or lightweight to knit and stay cool.
Alexis and Briony share pictures of projects they did to give you ideas for some super summer knitting. I appreciate the pictures and comments everyone sends my way, and hope to publish the newsletter more regularly so I can share lots more of them.
Another idea for some fun summer knitting is Yankee Doodle Sport Footies and Patriotic Socks.
Also, if you missed seeing the announcement of the newest pattern publications, I've included them here with pictures. There has been so much fabulous feedback on these and the other new patterns released this year – I appreciate your support of HeartStrings knitting patterns.
Enjoy!

Celebrate the season in red, white and blue

Patriotic Socks is a great summer-time knitting project. The cuff is worked side-to-side in a simple knit and purl welted ribbing of red and white stripes. The jag and swirl of the striped cuff suggests the US flag proudly waving in the breeze. Pattern includes instructions for the optional embroidered 5-point stars on the heel flap. Available in hard-copy and downloadable formats.

I gave the shawl to my mother for her birthday and she just loved it.

The yarn is Laughing Rat Studio hand-dyed Laceweight Merino in the colorway "Peony". I added one repeat of chart C to make it a bit bigger.

I just thought I'd email you about my little rave of the 3 to 2 Any Gauge Sweater I made in SR Kertzer's Ranee and Sari. I had to split the difference in gauges for them both to work together, but I just thought I'd share. I think this pattern shows them off beautifully and allows their drape to show off too. The 'button' is Sari crocheted into a button. I can never find buttons I like so I just make 'em out of the yarn I use.
Anyway, just wanted to say I loved working the pattern, easy to follow and a great tool for showing how useful gauge is.
