"I just read the Color mini-tutorial and although I have taken several color classes at conferences, you added new ways of looking at color mixtures. My mantra is "Color is Everything" so I am thrilled to think about it in more ways now."

Glitz and Beads Socks

HeartStrings knitting pattern #S33

The sparkle of metallic thread and shiny beads in Glitz and Beads Socks is sure to make your feet happy and feel like dancing. The beaded pattern echos the rhythmic sound waves of pulsing music to which we can imagine ourselves tapping in musical cadence.

And there are plenty of features in these socks to make your feet and knitting needles sing!

  • Note the nice attention to design details at cuff, ankle and instep where the ribbing flows into and out of the wavelike beaded pattern.
  • "Keyboard" ribbing at cuff and ankle provides a firm, yet flexible fit.
  • The heel flap flows from the ankle ribbing in a slipped stitch design that gives extra cushion and durability.
  • Left and right swirl toes fit well on your feet and are easy to make, too (no grafting!).

These socks feature Kreinik Fashion Twist metallic thread made of 100% polyester with a laminate of silver. This thread is a perfect complement to socks because it is anti-microbial, making it resistant to fungus. Most metallics can tend to be stiff and scratchy, but this one is absolutely not. Along with the softness, there is just enough body in the thread to add firmness to the knitted stitches, thereby supporting the weight of the glass beads with ease.

Adult small (medium, large). 265 (300, 375 yards) EACH of fingering weight yarn and metallic carry-along thread, 8 stitches/inch, size US 1 /2.25 mm needles suggested. Size 8/0 glass seed beads - 758 (866, 974) (approximately 20 (22.5, 25). Charted and written instructions. Sample was made with Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock color 3ns Grapevine, Kreinik Fashion Twist color 1160 Fuchsia, Miyuki beads 8-356 Purple-lined Amethyst AB.

A Commentary Video about Glitz and Beads Socks in the Making

This video was entirely off the cuff (sock that is, lol). It's my first test of using my new Flip video camcorder. To get sharper footage, I need to work on getting my hands a bit further away from the camera, and perhaps eliminating background objects that the camera tries to auto-focus on. But it turned out pretty well, I think, for a first try. Being entirely un-rehearsed, I hadn't even really thought of what I was going to say. I just started into it, and things went from there. I bet that's apparent from how many times I said 'nice'. Did you count them?
