A heavier nubby yarn frames disks of airy laceweight yarn, which in turn surround large eyelets of space and light.

The main body of the shrug is knitted first as a widthwise rectangle, with lower and upper edges softly scalloped and the sides at the arm edges slightly tapered with short rows.

The lace rib stitch cuffs are picked up and worked circularly beginning at the side selvedges of the main body, thus resulting in a no-sew "when you are done, you are done" project.

Pictured model was knitted in Half Crepe from Mountain Colors in color Chinook and Helen's Lace from Lorna's Lace's in color Sand Ridge.

Choose two yarns, each in a different color variegation — one yarn in a slightly heavier texture, and the other in a lighter weight smooth yarn. I like the idea of picking colorways that have a slight tonal shift to give a luminous effect, but of course you don't have to limit yourself to that.

Instructions in 5 sizes from Petite to Extra-Large with cuff to cuff measurements of 55[58, 61, 64, 68]". Choose two yarns, each in a different color variegation – one yarn in a slightly heavier crepe-like texture (C), and the other in a lighter weight smooth yarn (L). For the planned meansurements, you will need approximately 400[450, 475, 525, 550] yards of C and 550[600, 650, 700, 750] yards of L. US 8 / 5 mm needles suggested for gauge of 17 sts per 4 inches measured over Main Pattern Stitch for Body of Shrug. US 6 / 4 mm needles also needed in your choice of double points or circulars for working the Wrist Bands in the round. Written stitch instructions.
