Taking the art of knitting beyond the ordinary —
From the classic to the uniquely appealing

Seasons greetings –

Yes, we actually had SNOW here in south Louisiana. Not a lot, but enough to stick on the ground for a while. I know this is no big thing for some of you, but it was quite an event for me. It was pretty neat, too, that I had been knitting my own snowflakes for the new pattern Lacyflakes. To actually get to see nature's own snowflake creations was doubly inspiring!

I think that December must be the fastest month of the year. If you are like me, this time of the year has so many extra happenings with family and community, special thoughts and preparations near and dear to our hearts, and sometimes extra knitting projects that we are rushing to finish in time for holiday giving. So I am keeping this newsletter short to just a few announcements that you won't want to miss about new patterns from HeartStrings. Also, see who won the the Sock Therapy Kit contest, and check on the details for a new contest.

I encourage you (while reminding myself, too!) to take a moment now and then to relax with your knitting needles, fondle some yarn, or whatever — we owe it to ourselves to not overlook the everyday pleasures.

May be spirit of the season warm your heart and keep you safe. Happy holidays!

Sock Therapy Kit Contest Winner

I want to thank all of you who took the time to enter the recent contest for the Sock Therapy Kit.

Catherine Wingate designed and named the Sock Therapy design after the concept of treating yourself to "A perfect post-holiday project for de-stressing and much-needed self indulgence".

Sock Therapy, the January design from The Sock Calendar
Treat yourself to Sock Therapy

The correct answers for the contest were —

  1. For which month of The Sock Calendar was Sock Therapy featured? JANUARY
  2. For whom did Catherine Wingate suggest you first make these socks? YOURSELF

During the marathon of holidays, we are so often taking care of everyone else, that we often overlook ourselves. So remember to treat yourself in January (if not before) to some relaxation time for yourself and "Sock Therapy".

And now for the announcement you have been awaiting. Ta! Da! ... The contest winner is ... JERRY SPEARS. Congratulations Jerry! Please contact me so I can be sure to ship your Sock Therapy Kit to the correct address.

Lots of people wrote in that they were having fun with the contest questions, so I have come up with another contest for January. If you want to enter, be sure to read on further in the newsletter for details about HeartStrings next win-a-kit contest.

January Win-a-Kit Contest

Want another chance to win a HeartStrings kit specially prepared for newsletter subscribers? Here are the details of how to win a Norwegian Braid Hat Kit!

Norwegian Braid Hat

It's simple — just email me the correct answers to both these questions by January 15, 2009 to be entered into the contest to win a kit for Norwegian Braid Hat.

Answers can be found on the HeartStrings FiberArts website.

  1. The Norwegian Braid Hat is part of what collection in which Jackie E-S and Laura Andersson collaborated?

  2. With what other HeartStrings pattern does Norwegian Braid Hat coordinate?

Tip: If you are having trouble finding the information, use the search feature (upper right hand corner of each webpage) at the website to find key words or terms.

Kit includes pattern and all the high quality yarn you need to knit a Norwegian Braid Hat like one of those used in making the original models shown: 2 balls of luxury baby alpaca blend yarn in your choice of burgundy or hunter green for the main color, and accent yarn in light gray.

Prize drawing will be made on January 15, 2009 for all entrants with correct answers. Announcement will be made shortly after that. Have fun and good luck in winning!

That's all for now. I'll be back next time with a new Q&A Skill Spotlight to start off the new year. Also, a possible Knit-A-Long for Lacie Blankie. Meantime, have a wonderful holiday. Warm regards and joyful knitting,

Jackie Erickson-Schweitzer (Jackie E-S)

p.s. Your thank you donation will be used to help me continue to provide you free educational resources and newsletters.

Please do not feel any obligation ... each person knows what they are capable of and is in their heart to do. Even an occasional donation, whether small or large, is very much appreciated.
