Taking knitting beyond the ordinary --
From the classic to the uniquely appealing

Greetings knitting friend,

Temperatures are rising and the fresh green of spring is everywhere! Don't forget to take time out from your planting and yard work to indulge in some relaxation with your knitting.

A Happy Mother's Day to all the Mom's. There's a really cute "bowtie" textured stitch sock pattern in The Sock Journal called Mother & Child. And Father's Day is coming up not far behind. Get started now knitting some At-Home Comfort lounging socks to make his day.

The viewable online pattern cover pages that I announced in the last newsletter were a big hit. I am pleased that it helps you in yet another way to be inspired and have confidence in choosing and buying HeartStrings knitting patterns. I have now completed creating sample cover pages for all patterns in the Design Gallery online catalog and they are available for your viewing enjoyment.

The best to you. Happy knitting,

Jackie E-S / HeartStrings FiberArts

Join us for a Shawl Knit-Along

Now's your chance to join other knitters in making the Elegantly Simple Triangle Shawl.

Information and sign-up http://www.heritageyarns.com/PROMOTION.htm

EST Shawl Knit-Along blog site http://elegantlysimpleknit.blogspot.com

If you are new to lace, or to knitting lace from charts, there is no need for trepidation as Mary Hunt, an accomplished knitter, will be conducting the knit-along.

Margaret Pittman, creator of the exquisite Heritage Yarns hand-dyed jewel-tone yarns is sponsoring the Knit-Along and will be knitting right along with you on her third Elegantly Simple Triangle Shawl (this time she is using tencel, so if you've wanted to see how tencel works up into shawls, definitely do join in to see what is going on). To the right is Margaret's second EST Shawl in her Bird of Paradise colorway, shown worn 'upside down' in the collared cape style.

As designer of the Elegantly Simple Triangle Shawl, I'll be stopping by the knit-along blog site whenver I can to enjoy the camaraderie of the group and to help as needed.

Looking forward to seeing you there!

Socks for Mom's and Dad's Days

Mother and Child, the May pattern in The Sock Journal

A Happy Mother's Day to all the Mom's! Every mother deserves a gift knitted with love. Mother & Child is a really cute "bowtie" textured stitch sock pattern designed by Catherine Wingate. The design includes matching infant size bootie socks as a bonus to mom's and grandmom's knitting for new arrivals. Mother & Child is available along with lots of other sock patterns in The Sock Journal.

Comfort Socks Set

Now's the time to start knitting some soft comfortable lounging socks for the man in your life. It will 'make his day' on Father's Day. At-Home Comfort Socks (leftmost in picture to the left) is one of two designs in the Comfort Socks Set designed by Laura Andersson and me as part of the Comfort Collection.

Fixing Lace

Jessica L. writes ...

Thank you so much for posting the pictures of your progress in repairing the corner of your lace shawl. You inspired the bravery and confidence to patiently correct my own disaster repair in a knitted lace shawl, rather than frogging it all and beginning something all garter stitch! And chocolate does *indeed* help, too. With appreciation, Jessica

It is so nice when people like Jessica and you write to share both your successes and trials and tribulations. I am pleased to be a part in helping to inspire and build confidence in your knitting. When I requested permission of Jessica to share her comments with you, she went on to write ...

Of *course* you may post it! ... Since the time I wrote to you, I've made great progress knitting my shawl - it's up to 1000 stitches per round - yikes! I would never have made it this far if it hadn't been for the new confidence I feel as a result of fixing a section rather than frogging.
I don't feel the need to be so very careful because now I know I can fix an error, so I knit faster. Knitting at a faster speed has a better rhythm to the knitting, so I'm making very few mistakes anyhow - and those are mostly tinkable back a few stitches. I've even done away with all but the end-of round marker.
Seems you've made me a lace knitter.
