Tapestry Knitted Pillow

Tapestry Knitting Class Description

Use yarns for one-of-a-kind art-to-wear garments and home decor

In this class, you will knit a stunning throw pillow for yourself or a gift.

A simple motif is repeated in different orientations to produce visually interesting positive and negative space in somewhat the look of an abstract landscape.

Your choice of yarn colors and textures, together with the technique and design methods taught in this class, will produce a distinctive work of art!

Tapestry Knitted Pillow

The tapestry knitting technique you will learn in this class produces a sturdy, less stretchy fabric than regular knitting. This is ideal for home decor such as the pillow you will start knitting in class, or for side-to-side constructed garments where gravity might otherwise distort the shape when knitted in heavier yarns.

3 methods will be demonstrated so that you have a choice according to your physical abilities and preference in knitting with a yarn in each hand on a single row, or handling 2 yarns in one hand on a single row, or just knitting one yarn at a time on a row.

  • Prerequisites: Basic knitting skills. Some experience knitting with circular needles is helpful.
  • Students supply their own yarn, needles and pillow form. See supplies list.
  • Additional student materials fee: $5 per student (includes project instructions and charts).
  • Duration: 3 - 6 hours. The longer version of class allows more in-depth coverage of topics and time to knit the pillow under instructor guidance.
